Wow How time flies. How about THREE DECADES!
Our Farmers Market, founded in 1978 by Chris Smith and Charlotte Garrido, is celebrating several longtime market members this weekend. A number of our vendors have belonged to the market for more than ten years, but a few have been members for over three decades:
- Davis Farm (Marilyn Davis) 35 years
- Linda Young crafts 34 years
- Eufracia’s Backyard Gardens (Eufracia Garcia) 31 years
- Tom Farmer Oyster Company (Tom Farmer) 30 years
These four members have been at our Saturday Market regularly, rain or shine, for over three decades, providing our community with quality local farm and craft products and helping insure the success of our farmers market. We thank them for their consistency and dedication.
We think these folks are just pretty amazing! We invite the public to stop by to join us in congratulating them and to join us for celebration cake and refreshments. The Crichton Family Band will be playing 12-2.
We have a few big events coming up in September and October.
Discover You Can
This Nationwide program has been tremendously successful especially for us. We have been amongst the top with participation and thanks to all our customers we gained some recognition for the market. There are still a few more demo’s planned and still prizes to give away.
Tomato Taste Off – SEPTEMBER 13th.
Think your plants can hang with the best of them. Contact Dianna at email@example.com to enter.
Chili Cook Off – OCTOBER 11th.
Once again win bragging rights to all of Port Orchard. Contact Dianna at firstname.lastname@example.org to enter.
Harvest Dinner October 12th
To celebrate our season’s end will be hosting our annual Harvest Dinner at the Bay Street Bistro. Tickets are $25.00/person and well worth the full course meal. Tickets can be purchased at the Market Booth on Saturdays or you can contact Dianna at email@example.com.
Tomorrows market will feature another Discover You Can demonstration. If you have always wanted to learn how to can or preserve your fresh foods and produce come on down. The demonstration will start at 11Am. As a bonus…bring your own jars down, purchase some fresh can-able produce from one of our vendors and get into the act yourself. Use our equipment donated from the national DYC office and we will get you canned the right way. See you there
