POLICY GOVERNING CANOPIES & UMBRELLAS
"All vendors who wish to erect canopies/umbrellas on the farmers market site during a normal period of market operations, including the set up and break down period, are required to have their canopies/umbrellas sufficiently and safely anchored to the ground from the time their canopy/umbrella is put up to the time it is taken down. Any vendor who fails to properly anchor his or her canopy/umbrella will not be allowed to sell at the farmers market on that market day, unless that vendor chooses to take down and stow their canopy/umbrella and sell without it. "
Prior to selling at market, all members are required by the WSFMA to sign a Membership Contract acknowledging and accepting responsibility of insurance deductible if their canopy or umbrella causes damage to persons or property. There can be no exceptions.
The manager suggests a minimum of 25lbs tied down at each canopy corner and a minimum of 50lbs tied down on umbrellas, BUT we do not a guarantee that that weight will be sufficient. It is up to the Vendor to sufficiently secure his/her own canopy or umbrella.
If the legs of your covering come out at an angle or if you use rough concrete blocks for a tie-down: you MUST trip-proof these or display around them. This hazard is part of the canopy/ umbrella concern.
If you see a hazard, do something about it. If you don't feel comfortable mentioning the safety hazard to your fellow vendor, tell the Manager so she can discreetly deal with it before it becomes a liability situation.
